The tintype had a copper frame and was housed in an embossed leather case with red velvet liner. It was copied from the Hesler photograph taken in June All versions known are paper photographs. The vendor claimed this was an original tintype acquired through a purchase of a collection of tintypes assembled over the course of the last fifty years.

The CDV was a very important advance in commercial photography. Disdéri’s rotating camera back allowed the photographer to make eight individually exposed images on a single negative. The images were printed on albumen paper, then cut apart and glued onto mounts about the size of calling cards.

The demand always exceeded the supply, to such an extent that facsimiles and reproductions have been produced from onwards. It is out-of-print and difficult to obtain. We picture above just such an item. It is dated on the front and dated again on the back, using a rubber stamp. The paper, ink, style, and rubber stamp all appear to be of the period; however, it is the only example that has surfaced and we know nothing of its origin. Why was a voucher even necessary?

In doing so, he echoed the sentiments of the very small group of collectors who either own or have expertise related to the photographic scorecard rarities. Digging a little deeper into the history of the scorecards, historian and author, John Thorn, inadvertently discovered that Mort Rogers, a 19th century printer by trade, may have created the very first set of cards sold nationally and designed to feature the pictures of every professional baseball player for a particular season.

Based on the information Thorn unearthed in 19th century newspapers, it appears that Rogers was far ahead of his time and could very well be considered the long-lost father of the modern baseball card. HOS research documented 32 images of existing Mort Rogers score cards including the recent find unearthed on Antiques Roadshow top row left. I turned to a genealogy website to try to track down information about my heritage, and found evidence that I qualified to be a Daughter of the American Revolution.

Knowing that the official paperwork would require documentation of my ancestors, I turned to Lisa Lisson no relation for assistance. She helped track down the links between my Patriot ancestor and me, and helped me to submit my documents to become a Daughter of the American Revolution. Lisa also sent me wonderful detail-filled reports on different members of my family.

I have built quite a collection of reprints of family history books based on the sources she found. I can share stories of Puritans and farmers and witchcraft and Irish butchers and Indian raids and pioneers! Since then I have worked with a number of other researchers who have helped me find good sources as I am a stickler for documentary proof of facts.
